he RCVS is the regulatory body for veterinary surgeons in the UK. Its role is: * To safeguard the health and welfare of animals committed to veterinary care through the regulation of the educational, ethical and clinical standards of the veterinary profession, thereby protecting the interests of those dependent on animals and assuring public health. * To act as an impartial source of informed opinion on animal health and welfare issues and their interaction with human health. In effect the RCVS is made up of three distinct organisations:


  British Vets Association     

The BVA - the voice of the British veterinary profession Role of the BVA The British Veterinary Association (BVA) is the national representative body for the veterinary profession with over 10,600 members. In promoting and supporting the interests of our members, and the animals under their care, the BVA is committed to developing and maintaining channels of communication not least with government, parliamentarians and the media. The BVA is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered company, limited by guarantee.


  The Association for British Veterinary Acupuncturists     

The Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists was formed in 1987, as a result of a growing interest in acupuncture by veterinary surgeons in the UK. The aims of the Association are to further the research and teaching of veterinary acupuncture, by an organised programme of continuing education, and to encourage the appropriate use of acupuncture in veterinary medicine.
